SmartDrive for Distracted Driving Named to Heavy Duty Trucking’s 2018 Top 20 Products List
First Sensor in SmartDrive’s New Line of Intelligent Driver-assist Sensors Recognized for Addressing One of the Deadliest Risks in Commercial Transportation
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 16, 2018—SmartDrive Systems, a leader in video-based safety and transportation intelligence, today announced that Heavy Duty Trucking has named SmartDrive for Distracted Driving to the Top 20 Products for 2018 list. The annual list highlights the most innovative, significant and useful new products introduced the previous year.
“Distracted driving is one of the deadliest risks facing the transportation industry today, resulting in an estimated 3,450 fatalities annually according to the U.S. Department of Transportation,” said Steve Mitgang, CEO of SmartDrive. “With so many distractions that compete for a driver’s attention, both inside and outside the cab, SmartDrive for Distracted Driving is designed to improve driver safety and save lives. It is an honor to be recognized for our innovation and dedication to safety.”
SmartDrive for Distracted Driving is the first sensor in the new line of intelligent driver-assist sensors designed to identify the most dangerous driving risks and intervene with drivers before a catastrophic event occurs. The SmartDrive for Distracted Driving sensor uses advanced computer vision-based algorithms and combines them with the SmartDrive video analytics platform to help solve the epidemic of distracted and inattentive driving at the root of the problem. Users also can pair the program with the SmartDrive Extended Recording capability to offer an accurate picture of what led to the driver distraction, the driver’s actions and the outcome, allowing fleets to provide detailed feedback and actionable coaching to improve driver safety.
“Heavy Duty Trucking’s Top 20 Products are evaluated in three areas: innovation, addressing significant industry issues and potential to help a fleet’s bottom line,” said Deborah Lockridge, editor-in-chief of Heavy Duty Trucking. “SmartDrive does all three: combining sensor data and advanced analytics, addressing the issue of distracted driving and offering the potential to reduce the number of tragic and costly crashes.”
Heavy Duty Trucking will present the Top 20 awards at the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council 2018 Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition, March 5-8, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia.
