SAN DIEGO, November 4, 2015 — SmartDrive Systems, a leader in video-based safety solutions that identify and help transit agencies ensure operator compliance and performance, today congratulates the Los Angeles Country Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) on receiving the inaugural SmartRail USA Innovation Award for Project of the Year. L.A. Metro was recognized for its novel intelligence-based surveillance system (IBSS), a proof of concept that leveraged SmartDrive’s platform and demonstrated L.A. Metro’s ability to identify safety related risks, including the use of personal devices.

The category focuses on projects that have helped deliver a safer, more reliable transit network, increased capacity, boosted ridership or improved the passenger experience.

SmartDrive recently announced that its video-based safety program has been optimized for rail. Rail-specific capabilities have been incorporated into the SmartDrive safety solutions to support passenger rail agencies’ efforts to comply with comprehensive regulations mandating that they have video cameras monitor and audit operator activities including the usage of personal electronic devices while operating a train.

L.A. Metro received its award at SmartRail USA Congress & Expo, held Oct. 28-29 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
