SmartDrive Appoints Industry Veteran Derek White to Lead Transit Business Development
Continued Investment in Expertise, Technology Enhancements Positions SmartDrive for Continued Growth in Transit Sector
SAN DIEGO, June 19, 2015 — SmartDrive Systems, a leader in video-based safety solutions that identify and help transit agencies reduce risky operator performance, announced today the appointment of transit expert Derek White as director of transit sales. An industry veteran with significant experience in the development and promotion of video-based safety solutions for passenger buses and rail, White will lead SmartDrive’s business development initiatives in the transit sector and guide the development of innovative product enhancements designed to meet the unique needs of transit providers.
“We are thrilled to welcome Derek to the SmartDrive team and his appointment represents further affirmation of our commitment to deliver best-in-class video safety programs helping transit agencies meet safety, regulatory and operational objectives,” stated Steve Mitgang, CEO of SmartDrive. “Derek’s accomplishments and proven expertise in applications of video technology within passenger rail and bus systems ensure his ability to quickly deliver results in helping SmartDrive accelerate product development efforts already underway to meet the specific requirements of transit fleets.”
SmartDrive recently announced that its solutions are successfully in use with transit carriers and have incorporated rail-specific capabilities into SmartDrive Assurance and SmartDrive 360 safety-based video solutions. SmartDrive 360 offers up to four cameras, allowing for broad video coverage of rail cars and ensuring agencies have the critical video information to make decisions in minutes, not days. In addition, the solution helps rail carriers comply with state and federal regulations which mandate video camera monitoring of in-cab activities such as using personal electronic devices while operating a train.
“I’m extremely pleased to join SmartDrive’s customer service-oriented team of transportation industry and safety experts,” noted White, who is an active member of the Community of Minority Transit Officials (COMTO) and American Public Transportation Association (APTA). “I was particularly attracted to SmartDrive’s commitment to the continued development of solutions that deliver actionable intelligence as a critical component of agencies’ integrated safety programs. I look forward to helping guide business development, product enhancement, and OEM integration initiatives targeting the unique needs of transit agencies.”
White will be in attendance at the APTA Rail Conference, June 21-24 in Salt Lake City, UT, and available throughout the show at the SmartDrive booth, #106.
