Award Recognizes Driver and U.S. Army Veteran Whose Best-in-Class Safety Score Reflects Company's Commitment to Safety

Watkins, a veteran of the U.S. Army, was selected for this recognition based on his outstanding driving performance and safety record, as measured by his SmartDrive Safety Score. As reported through the last week in October, Watkins achieved a safety score of 10, which is considered best-in-class by Carroll Fulmer’s drivers.

Watkins’ 17-year military career included deployment to Operation Desert Storm (1990-1991) and two tours in Iraq (2003 and 2005). After transitioning to civilian life, he began driving for Carroll Fulmer in 2014. The skills, knowledge and experience gained during time spent in service to our country have served Watkins well and his remarkable record of safe driving is evidence of his personal discipline and commitment to excellence.
Using SmartDrive’s video-based safety program to monitor and measure fleet-wide driving performance, Carroll Fulmer leverages the SmartDriveR program as a means of encouraging friendly competition amongst employees to minimize driving-related risks and reward safe driving. SmartDrive’s scoring and coaching models enabled the fleet to reduce risks that are leading indicators of collisions, with results including a 70 percent reduction in speeding, 65 percent decrease in unsafe following and 16 percent improvement in seatbelt compliance. Watkins, who is being recognized for his driving performance, was honored in front of his peers at a company-wide gathering and received a financial award of $500, sponsored by SmartDrive, Meritor WABCO and Meritor.
